McMullen Facades has successfully delivered the full vertical envelope to phase two of the University of Liverpool’s Apex project, which forms part of the university’s new Bio-Science facility.

Following McMullen’s appointment to work on phase one of the Apex project, the team has recently completed the second phase which saw McMullen provide a ‘fast-track’ installation to deliver a unitised curtain walling system to the facade of the new four-storey building in just eight-weeks. The unitised system was designed and manufactured off-site at McMullen’s state of the art facility in Moira, Northern Ireland.

McMullen’s scope of works for main contractor Shepherd Construction also included the supply and installation of a three-colour anodised rainscreen cladding system and a traditional ‘stick-built’ facade for the facility’s large atrium, along with installation of the doors, louvres and parapet coping.

The building, which will accommodate the university’s Faculty of Medicine, was designed to incorporate many energy saving measures to meet the university’s commitment to carbon reduction and is located within the city’s ‘knowledge quarter’.
